The mission of Yokefellow Ministry is to provide compassionate assistance to individuals and families facing times of need or crisis. Our primary purpose is to help reduce hunger and food insecurity within our community by providing food assistance and support with essential utilities. Assistance is provided based on individual needs and the resources available to the ministry.

Yokefellow was founded on May 24, 1972, by a group of concerned ministers and laypeople who shared a desire to provide emergency assistance to individuals and families in Surry County. Since its founding, Yokefellow has touched the lives of thousands of people facing times of crisis by providing food assistance and other essential support.
The Yokefellow logo reflects the meaning behind our name. A yoke is a wooden frame traditionally used to join two animals together so they could share the burden of pulling a plow or cart. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says, “Take my yoke upon you.” The yoke serves as a symbol of service—first to Him and then to others.
“Together” remains a key word in Yokefellow’s mission. By working together as volunteers, churches, organizations, and members of our community, we can share the load and help meet the needs of our neighbors during times of crisis.

Yokefellow provides food assistance and support with essential utility expenses, including electricity and water. We also offer information and referral services to help individuals and families connect with available community resources, food banks, and other assistance programs. Services are available to residents throughout the greater Mount Airy area.

Yokefellow is primarily a volunteer organization with one part-time paid staff person. Volunteers willingly and freely give their time and talents to see that Yokefellow meets its objective. You can be a vital part of the ministry at Yokefellow.

Yokefellow's desire is to involve you and your church, organization, or business.
Your help is critical in helping Yokefellow meet the needs of our community. If you or your organization would like to speak with a representative of Yokefellow Ministry or make a contribution, please contact Mikki McCraw, Program Coordinator at 336-789-5838.
